Short Fuze for Public Comment

We only have until June 10th, 2025 to respond.  FEMA is updating the flood map plan is used to determine who needs to purchase flood insurance in our community.  There have been changes to the Town of Lima Flood Map.  Some will no longer need the flood insurance, others will now have to buy it.  Please review the ARC GIS map (link is below).  You can leave comments through the map.  While you can access the presentation through the map, I have also scanned and attached it for quick access.  MJF

Text of the letter received:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 2 Office has produced a new draft Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) database for Livingston County, New York. Completing this draft database concludes the collection and analysis of the initial engineering data for your community and provides an updated representation of where water will collect and flow during a flood. Over time, water flow and drainage patterns can change due to surface erosion, land use development, and other factors. The draft FIRM database applies these changes to show proposed Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs). An SFHA is an area subject to inundation by the base (1%-annual-chance) flood.

The draft database is available for your community’s review in the form of digital workmaps, available on the FEMA Geoplatform

https://arcg.is/1OOLXm

Please send the data or comments to the FEMA Region 2 staff members identified below. If your community would like to request a digital copy of the draft FIRM database or other flood hazard data, please reach out to the FEMA staff member listed below as soon as possible. Please note that this data is considered draft/provisional and is subject to change because it has not been through final reviews or an appeal period. FEMA wants your community to have current and accurate flood risk products. Your feedback, partnership, and local knowledge make this possible.

We look forward to working with community officials and other stakeholders to increase flood hazard awareness and reduce risk to lives and property from flooding. Any comments and suggestions will not affect your community’s ability to provide feedback later, or to formally appeal the flood hazard information during the future appeal period. Please submit all questions, data, and comments on the digital workmaps within 30 days of the May 15, 2025, FRR meeting. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact Stephanie Gootman (stephanie.gootman@fema.dhs.gov), J. Trevor Cone (john.cone@fema.dhs.gov), and Stu Geiger (sgeiger@dewberry.com).

PAST SUPERVISOR'S MESSAGE

posted August 30, 2024

Hello Lima, Here is a note regarding the potential water district from the LCWSA:

Community Members,

As you may be aware, in March the Town of Lima Town Board requested that the Livingston County Water and Sewer Authority (Authority) assist in conducting a public engagement process to receive public comment and further evaluate the community interest for an additional water district.  This was requested as part of an effort to evaluate the viability of a smaller, more focused, water district to serve residents that have expressed interest and/or need in receiving public water, as opposed to the Town wide water district proposed in 2023.  In addition, the Town Board wanted to evaluate the possibility of utilizing, at least in part, existing grant funds the Town has received from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) by a grant awarded in September 2023.
